New York Maya Lin- Art 21
This Art 21 video called to me because i believe there is a possible piece of her work at the Nelson Museum of art in Kansas City where i grew up. If not the same artist, definitely influenced by it. I find the abstraction of the work fascinating and elegantly simple.
The use of maps to connect us to the land, and events that impact it and how those events in nature influence us. She says she isn't sure that its fascinating to anyone but her, but she is trying ot think of aspects of nature that maybe you would traditionally consider.
Conversation around the environment of the water line and oyster beds and how they impacted the land, and protected us.
"One species absolutely doesn't have a right to dominate the natural world."
I very much agree and I think her concerns of impact are less about ego and more more involved in saving ecosystems and and bringing awareness.
